Fragments of Russia’s transport space ship sink in Pacific
Russia’s transport ship Progress M-55 sank in the Pacific on Monday.
“At about 21:53 Moscow time, fragments of the transport ship Progress M-55 with the remains of waste from the ISS sank at a depth of four kilometres
in a specially designated area of the Pacific, 5,700 kilometres east of New Zealand,” the Mission Control Centre told Itar-Tass.
“There is no navigation in this areas,” it added.
The operation to dispose of the transport ship started several hours earlier.
“At 18:04 Moscow time a command was issued to undock Progress M-55 from the International Space Station. Three minutes later the ship should separate
from the station and head for Earth,” Mission Control Centre spokesman Valery Lyndin told Itar-Tass.
