NASA to launch shuttle Discovery on July 1

After what they
called a "spirited discussion," NASA officials decided Saturday to launch the space shuttle Discovery as planned on July 1. It will be only the
second flight since the Columbia tragedy.
Concluding a two-day meeting at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida that Michael D. Griffin, administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, said involved "intensive and spirited exchange" over safety issues, shuttle authorities gave a go-ahead to the flight despite the
reservations of two senior officials.
