Russia invites China to co-develop 5th-generation jetfighter
Zhuhai, Nov 3: Russia has invited China to participate in the
development of a fifth-generation jetfighter, Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Alexander Denisov said.
"Russian Air Force will phase into service a fifth-generation aircraft designed under a Sukhoi Company project. Work in this area is proceeding
according to an established timetable. We hope that the aircraft will be rendered airborne on time and that our Air Force will get the plane they
want," Denisov said.
We suggest that some countries, among them the People's Republic of China (PRC), participate in this project, he said while talking to journalists at
the Airshow China-2006 here yesterday.
In response to a question regarding assistance to China in construction of it's first aircraft carrier, he said, "If there is a respective request
on the part of the PRC, we shall examine it, of course. My opinion is that such a request would not run counter to any existing international norms.
Therefore, such cooperation is possible".
