Russia to develop Invisible Threads to replace Flares and Chaff
Yuri Perunov, Chief Designer of Combat Vehicle Protection Systems
at the Moscow Radio-Technical Institute, reported that a new method of passive protection of combat vehicles was developed based on the ejection of
large quantities of thread-like structures with a diameter of tens of microns each heated to a temperature of 600-700 „aC. These structures
effectively absorb radio-electronic signals within a very wide frequency range. A cloud of threads can be formed during several seconds and remain in
the air for several hours. The new system can replace the existing protection methods based on the use of aerosols and chaff ejection. The new system
can be used to protect combat vehicles, helicopters and naval combatants. This technology has no analogs in the world.
