The aviators, participating in the Army Air Race-2005, today conveyed the common message that the students and youth can enrich their lives by taking up adventure activities.

The aviators, all of them Army officers, took off from Mhow in their colourful microlight aircrafts and landed here this morning for refuelling. After a short halt, they took off for Birlagram from where they were to return to Mhow to complete their 475-kilometer day-light cross-country race. Microlight pilots from all the five Commands of the Army took part in today's Race organised for the first time by the Aero Nodal Centre at Mhow, which is directly supervised by the Army Adventure Wing.

The main objective of this daylight cross-country event was to test the endurance and expertise of the microlight pilots. Captain Birender Singh of the Southern Command, who flew the powered hang glider Voyager without a navigator, had a special message for the youth. On landing here, he said: "Apart from studies, there should be some adventure in life."

Major S.A. Naidu of the Central Command, who was flying an XAIR microlight aircraft along with his team-mate, Captain N.S. Subeesh, said that more and more youngsters should come forward to join the Army because it has so much to offer in terms of adventure.

He said a microlight twin-seater aircraft costs even less than a good sports utility vehicle. Since it flies at a relatively slow speed, one gets so much time to enjoy, he said and went on to point out that owning and maintaining a microlight is not a very costly preposition, especially for clubs and organisations devoted to adventure activities and sports.

Lt. Colonel B.M. Talwar of Northern Command, who was the first to land here along with his team-mate, Captain Ujjwal Panchal, said that the idea behind this event is to popularise adventure sports among children and youth. The other competitors in the Air Race were Major P.G. Singh and Captain Ashwani Kumar of the Western Command and Major M.S. Chawla and Major Anand Adhav from the Eastern Command.
