JAS-39 Gripen From Sweden
The Indian government has made a request for information from Gripen International, to be received before 25 December, for the supply of 126 JAS 39C/D Gripen multirole combat aircraft as a MiG-21 replacement.
The news was revealed by Ian McNamee, managing director of Gripen International, the joint Swedish-UK marketing company, during official ceremonies in Link 'ping for the 'completion of the production phase? of the Czech Gripen. McNamee confirmed that work was already under way on an offer pending approval by Swedish authorities.
According to Bob Kemp, marketing director of Gripen International, an interest shown by Thailand in the Gripen is indicative of the shift some smaller countries are adopting towards the sourcing of their defence equipment. Other regional countries showing interest, Kemp said, included Malaysia and Vietnam.
