China Praises Brazillian Space Program

Chinese President Hu Jintao, on a visit to Brazil's space institute, praised the two nations' joint satellite program, local news reports said Tuesday.
"The China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Program has made eye-catching achievements and set an example of south-south co-operation in new and high technology," Hu said during his visit to the center outside Sao Paulo, the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper reported.
The program uses two satellites to monitor ecological conditions in both countries. A third will be launched in 2006.
Hu wrapped up his 5-day visit to Brazil Monday before heading to Argentina.
Last week China gave its support to Brazil in its quest to join the U.N. Security Council as a permanent member and signed a number of trade accords bolstering economic relations.
