Calibrating Your Joystick in Windows

Posted 10-17-2004 at 02:38 PM

Feel your plane yawing or banking where it?s not supposed to go? Maybe it?s time for you to calibrate your joystick! Here?s the way to do it in Windows.

Step 1) Go to the Control Panel. You can access it two ways, by typing Control Panel in Internet Explorer, going to My Computers then double clicking Control Panel, either way is fine.

HINT: There is also a shortcut, by going to Start > Run and typing control joy.cpl and then press OK lets you skip right to Step 3.

Step 2) From the Control Panel open up the Game Controllers icon to open up the Game Controllers configurations. You should see the name of your controller in there.

Step 3) Select your controller and click on Properties.

Step 4) Near the lower right corner you should see the Calibrate tab. Click on it and it will open up the calibration menu.

Step 5) Just follow the instructions on your screen and you should finish your calibration in a couple of minutes.

Tips: When calibrating do not use too much force on your joystick to force the crosshair around, it might damage the joystick.
You might need to calibrate your joystick a few times for it to work exceptionally.
If your joystick is still not working properly after calibration, then there might be something wrong with the joystick and not the calibration.

Hope that helps!
Michael
