Tools:
Winzip www.winzip.com
Winrar www.winrar.com
Notepad or any text editing software.
Need to Know:
The Location of your YSFLIGHT Directory.
Most likely it will be C:Program FilesYSFLIGHT, but it might have been changed, please find out.
1) Extracting
After you download an aircraft or a pack, it will most likely be compressed in a .zip file. Sometimes it will also be in .cab, but both .zip files and
.cab files are able to be "decompressed" using Winzip, a program you can get at www.winzip.com
To extract, just right click the file and click on Extract To.. and the Winzip dialog will appear.
You will need to extract to your main YSFLIGHT directory. In the Winzip dialog there is the "Extract To:" you can type in the Path to your
YSFLIGHT directory there, or you can browse using the diagrams at the side.
Then just click on Extract and "tada!" the files will appear in a folder in your YSFLIGHT folder.
Extracting will make installation much faster because nowadays most planes and packs come with a Readme with all the paths ready, so you just need to
Copy and Paste them into your "aircraft.lst", if the structure of the extracted folders are maintained.
Note: You must use the "Extract" function of Winzip to maintain the folder structures of the zipped files, dragging and dropping will make
them all end up in a big mess.
Dragging and Dropping could be used if installing individual aircrafts.
2) Installing
Now to Install. YSFlight uses paths to find the aircraft that you want in your game. The paths for the airplanes are stored in
"aircraft.lst" It is in the "aircraft" folder in your main YSFLIGHT directory.
You can open "aircraft.lst" by using Notepad or any text editing software.
Once you opened the file you'll see a jumble of stuff, they are the paths to the aircrafts.
For example, the first line in "aircraft.lst" will show you:
aircraft/a4.dat aircraft/a4f.dnm aircraft/a4coll.srf aircraft/a4cockpit.srf aircraft/a4fcoarse.dnm
That means the A4 Skyhawk, is located in the "aircraft" folder in the main YSFLIGHT Directory.
Another example:
example/air/a10t.dat example/air/a10t.dnm example/air/a10coll.srf example/air/a10tcockpit.srf
That means this A10 is located in the "air" folder that's inside the "example" folder which is inside the main YSFLIGHT
Directory.
So it would look something like this:
- YSFLIGHT
- example
- air
Say for example you extracted an airplane in a folder called "123". Inside that folder you have the files "myplane.dnm"
"myplane.dat" "myplanecoll.srf" "myplanecoarse.dnm" "myplanecockpit.srf"
So here's what you would insert into the aircraft.lst:
Since the plane is in the "123" folder, the path will begin with "123/" followed by the filename:
123/myplane.dnm 123/myplane.dat 123/myplanecoll.srf 123/myplanecoarse.dnm 123/myplanecockpit.srf
Note: The aircraft packs will come with a Readme or a text file containing the paths to all the planes in that pack and you just need to copy
and paste them into "aircraft.lst", but you must maintain their folder structures or else it would not work, so you must use the extract
command in Winzip and not Drag and Drop.
It's not that hard, it just takes some common sense to figure out. You just have to match the location of the files to that paths that you have
pasted into your "aircraft.lst". Make sure you also make a back-up of your aircraft.lst if you plan to visit EFCN because when you enter the
YS room it will over-write it....
Please post on the forum or email me if you encounter any problems or have trouble installing.
